Premier League Darts: Dave Chisnall says victory is just the beginning!
Chizzy takes on Michael van Gerwen in Brighton
Tuesday 19 May 2015 13:30, UK
Dave Chisnall is hoping that shock Premier League Darts glory could catapult his career alongside the sport’s top players like Michael Van Gerwen, Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld.
Chisnall wasn’t favoured to trouble darts' elite throwers this season but, with one final night remaining until the play-offs at the O2 Arena, he sits in second position.
Chisnall faces top-of-the-table Van Gerwen as Premier League Darts comes to Brighton on Thursday at 7pm on Sky Sports 1 and wants to upset the Dutchman to steal top spot.
"If I win it, it’s my first major competition," Chisnall told Sky Sports. "It will prove that I can push for more.
"It’s important for me to finish top because I’ve played well all the way through the season. I was the favourite to finish bottom but, after Brighton, I could finish top.
"My best memory this season is beating Gary Anderson twice because he’s the world champion. That’s my highlight. But I’ve also enjoyed travelling the country!"
Expect 180s
To finish first ahead of the play-offs, Chisnall needs to defeat Van Gerwen in Brighton and recognises the difficulty of that task.
Is he wary of joining MvG, Anderson and Barney in the play-offs next week? Of course not, Chizzy will play anyone!
“I can’t wait to play Michael again because the last time we played it was a very good game,” he said.
“You can expect a lot of 180s - I’ve been hitting a few lately and you don’t have to worry about Michael, he’s a proper 180 man!
“He’s a tough opponent because when he’s on a finish he always take it out. In other games you might get another shot but not against Michael. You don’t get many chances.
“Whoever I get in the play-offs, I’ll play. It doesn’t matter who I get because they are all good players. There’s a lot of top players that play in this competition and only one of them can win it - let’s hope it’s me!”
