James Wade needs to stop saying sorry after World Championship win, says Wayne Mardle

James Wade celebrates his victory over Ronny Huybrechts

Multiple major champion James Wade needs to stop antagonising his opponents by saying "sorry" and continue being ruthless on the oche, says Wayne Mardle.

Three-time semi-finalist Wade cruised past Ronny Huybrechts in the first round of the World Darts Championship on Wednesday despite losing the first leg of each set.

The sixth seed Wade produced a moment of magic with a match-winning 141 checkout as he began his bid for a first world title with a routine victory on the penultimate night of first round action.

The left-hander - last month's Grand Slam of Darts runner-up - also hit finishes of 84, 120 and 62 as he set up a second clash against former Lakeside Champion Steve Beaton.

But Sky Sports' darts expert Mardle says the Aldershot thrower needs to stop being so nice and become more ruthless as he aims to land the biggest tournament of them all in January.

"He does this all the time," five-time World Championship semi-finalist Mardle told Sky Sports Darts. "That's what James does. He's a quality operator, but he has got to stop saying sorry when he beats people. It antagonises them and annoys everyone.

"He's got to stop that. James is one of those players that when he's playing well he looks like he's never going to miss.

"He was at it in the first couple of sets and he ground Ronny down and I don't believe Ronny thought in that third set that he was going to get out of it and take it to a fourth set.

"James practises and plays - he knows his game inside out. He just needs to play competitions. Whatever he does, it works for him. He just needs to continue that way."
