Ant Davidson is at the Skypad to review how Nico Rosberg beat Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton to pole for the 2016 German GP.

Sky F1 expert analyst Anthony Davidson examines where pole position for the German GP was won and lost by Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

With Mercedes ahead of Ferrari and Red Bull in every session this weekend, the battle for pole at Hockenheim boiled down to a straight fight between the Mercedes team-mates and title rivals.

"The car was feeling great today, it was definitely on for pole - our engineers did a great job," said Hamilton.

Rosberg was restricted to just a single flying lap in Q3 after being forced to abort his opening run due to an electronics glitch.

That meant Hamilton held provisional pole heading into the final minutes, but how costly was the mistake the world champion then made on his final run as he missed out on pole by just over a tenth of a second from Rosberg?

Watch the video at the top of the page as Anthony Davidson cast an expert eye over their respective laps at the end of the top ten shootout.
