Ant Davidson looks at how Lewis Hamilton beat Nico Rosberg to pole position for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, his 61st career pole in F1.

So what was the secret of Lewis Hamilton's resounding defeat of Nico Rosberg in qualifying for the Abu Dhabi GP? Sky F1's Ant Davidson analyses their Q3 laps on the Skypad to reveal where pole was won and lost.

Although beaten by his team-mate and title rival in every session this weekend, Rosberg found the pace to match Hamilton's best effort through the first sector of their last Q3 flying laps before the Englishman surged clear in the final third.

When he crossed the line in a time of 1:38.755, the world champion was precisely 0.303 seconds faster than the world championship leader.

But was Hamilton's secret saving up his brittle ultrasofts through the opening corners of the lap to leave life in his rubber for the critical final corners?
