A fan was spotted taking a stroll along the side of the track during the Singapore GP.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after the Singapore GP was interrupted by a track invader.

In an incident described as "sheer lunacy" by Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft, the fan - who is reportedly British - crossed the Marina Bay circuit midway through the race and then strolled down the left-hand side of the track.

After the track invader was first spotted by race leader Sebastian Vettel, the Safety Car was immediately deployed before the spectator exited through a gap in the barriers.

The FIA has confirmed that Singapore police have arrested a 27-year-old man who is 'assisting the police with investigations'.

'We are awaiting a full report from the Clerk of the Course in order to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident,' F1's governing body said.

Subsequent CCTV footage shown to media in Singapore showed that the man climbed onto the circuit over the right-hand barrier and walked across the track, before continuing down on the inside towards Turn 13. After briefly stopping, he then went back through a gap in the fence.
