Paul di Resta examines just where Lewis Hamilton managed to beat Nico Rosberg to pole position in the Mexican GP

Lewis Hamilton took pole position for the Mexican GP by over two tenths from Nico Rosberg and Sky F1's Paul di Resta examines where that time was won and lost.

Having been on the back foot all weekend, Rosberg produced his best lap on his final attempt to rescue a front row start, having been in danger of even being on the third row.

But it still wasn't enough to match Hamilton's first effort in Q3, who edges ahead in the Mercedes qualifying battle 10-9 with two races remaining.

"It's not pole position, but it gives me great chance for Sunday anyway," said Rosberg.

"It took a bit longer this weekend to find the way. Just generally with tyre temperatures, it being on the cold side all the weekend. So it's a bit nervous out there and just to find the way with that took a bit longer.
