Renault will provide engines for four teams in 2012

Renault have confirmed that Jean-Michel Jalinier will replace Bernard Rey as president of their Sport F1 division from January 1. Jalinier has worked for Renault for over 25 years and has held numerous positions within the organisation. He will now take responsibility for the strategic operation of the organisation ahead of the 2012 season - when they will provide engines to four teams - in addition to overseeing the adaptation to new engine regulations due to come into force in 2014.

'Crashgate'

Renault Sport F1's managing director Jean-Francois Caubet said: "Jean-Michel's knowledge of the Renault-Nissan group, plus his keen interest in Formula One and motorsport, will serve us well as we move forward to the next phase of our participation in the sport." Rey took charge of the Renault F1 team in 2007 and became president of Renault Sport F1 on its formation last year. His time at the helm was a busy one, and included guiding Renault through the 'crashgate' scandal relating to the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, when Nelson Piquet Jnr deliberately crashed in a bid to influence the outcome of the race. Rey was then instrumental in the F1 team's sale to investment management group Genii Capital at the end of 2009, and emergence into the leading engine manufacturer on the F1 grid under the Renault Sport F1 banner. Renault engines have powered Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull to back-to-back drivers' and constructors' championships in the last two years.
