Lewis Hamilton’s start to the Canadian GP couldn’t have gone any better on the timesheet as the world champion topped both practice sessions – but his Friday certainly wasn’t without incident or mishap on a day of mixed weather in Montreal.

Sending their cars out on intermediate tyres to test their start settings in the wet, Mercedes were caught out as the weather immediately worsened and Hamilton was a passenger as he attempted to slow his W06 down for the hairpin and slewed across the run-off area and into a low-speed impact with the barrier.
