Williams and Force India back in the fold

The Formula One Teams' Association has announced that both the Williams and Force India teams have rejoined its number. In a statement published on Wednesday, FOTA, which represents the teams as a united body in talks with the FIA and F1's commercial rights holder, also said it looked forward to welcoming the three new teams due to join the grid next season. Williams and Force India were members of FOTA since its inception last year but both were suspended early in the summer after breaking ranks over the FIA's plans to introduce a budget cap for the 2010 season. FOTA announced in June it was planning to form a breakaway series in response but later shelved the plan after the FIA agreed to ditch the budget cap. It's main proponent, FIA president Max Mosley, also agreed not to seek a new term of office. The teams - bar the departing BMW Sauber - subsequently renewed their commitment to the sport by signing up to a new commercial Concorde Agreement, binding them to the championship until 2012. FOTA said they were now looking at extending that agreement beyond 2012, as well as looking at ways to "develop the show" for fans. "The FOTA Executive Committee looks forward to working with the FIA and commercial rights holder to promote a healthy, dynamic and sustainable sport," said the statement, released after the executive committee meeting at Monza ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix. "To this end, FOTA intends to now enter into open discussion with the commercial rights holder with the wish to confirm arrangements beyond 2012."
