Budding F1 outfit cannot run car owing to a lack of tyres

Stefan GP have been forced to cancel a test scheduled to take place in Portugal this week owing to a lack of tyres. The Serbian-backed team, who are trying to secure an official entry to the Formula One grid for the coming season, were scheduled to run their car at the Portimao circuit. "We cannot do the test at the moment and we are still trying to find a solution," team owner Zoran Stefanovic told Autosport. "We have no tyres and will not test on tyres that are not suitable for the car to go testing at full speed. "We now need to see what our options are, but we definitely need to do something to sort this situation out." Bridgestone, F1's official tyre supplier, is only contracted to supply teams who have entries into the World Championship. The team have taken over the 2010 car design of Toyota - rechristened the Stefan S-01 - in the wake of the Japanese manufacturer's decision to withdraw from the sport at the end of last season. Toyota-backed Kazuki Nakajima is pencilled in to race for Stefan GP should they be granted an entry, with former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve also linked to the team.
