Monacos of the legendary past will be at the forefront as Sky F1 looks to the future and Sunday's race...
Sky Sports F1 the only place to be this week
Legendary winners of the Monaco GP will be taking centre stage this week as Sky Sports F1 HD looks to the past, present and future in its dedicated and all-encompassing coverage of this year's massively-anticipated event. With Monaco Week on Channel 408 already well underway after Sunday's back-to-back broadcast of the last five races to be held around the fabled streets of Monte Carlo, a few trips down memory lane will be at the heart of Sky Sports F1's build-up to Sunday's showpiece. In the first instance, Martin Brundle will be reviewing in-car footage of one of Ayrton Senna's qualifying laps around the Principality in 1990. In what is sure to make for a riveting piece of commentary, Martin will be explaining just what made Senna such a master of Monaco and how his approach to tackling the circuit differs to that of F1's current generation. Martin might also have something to say about what the 2012 field can learn from studying one of Ayrton's most revered and spectacular laps... Our second retrospective feature will be of an entirely different timbre but no less compelling as the team recount the incredible story of William Grover-Williams, the 1929 Monaco GP winner who, in later life, joined the Special Operations Executive to fight back against the occupation of France by Nazi Germany in a secret underground movement alongside fellow racing driver Robert Benoist. But that's far from all, of course. Throughout the weekend, Georgie Thompson will have the envious task of hosting interviews from a boat in the harbour, with both Pastor Maldonado and Felipe Massa due on-board for a chat, while GT's regular partner-in-crime Natalie Pinkham will be joining the Drivers' Parade Lap on Sunday morning. As for our team of pundits, they've each chosen their favourite section of the most famous circuit in motor-racing to pool their knowledge for a cumulative track guide. One final thing: Don't forget that, as tradition dictates, Friday is Market Day in Monaco, which in turn means that our live on-track action begins on Thursday morning with Practice One coverage going to air at 8.45am.
