Pirelli's initial investigation into Sergio Perez's tyre failure pinpoints a cut sidewall
Delamination not to blame this time

An initial investigation by Pirelli into Sergio Perez's tyre failure in final practice for the British Grand Prix pinpoints a cut sidewall as the cause and not a delamination.
The delaminations seen in Bahrain and Spain brought about the change - and also was on the agenda at the controversial test Pirelli held with Mercedes in Barcelona after the Spanish GP. That the tyre, according to Perez, simply "exploded" raised safety questions at such a high-speed circuit. Although the previous delaminations resulted in the tyres shedding their treads, they did stay inflated.
