Duke needs to impress Davis

Nathan Ellington will need to prove his fitness during pre-season in order to earn another contract at Crewe.

Currently a free agent, the former Bristol Rovers, Wigan and West Brom hitman spent the last month of the season with the Railwaymen after being offered a short-term contract but failed to score in eight appearances for the club. Despite that lack of goals, manager Steve Davis told the club's official website that the 31-year-old could yet earn himself another contract providing he proves his fitness during the summer break. "Nathan had the desired impact around the place," Davis confirmed. "He was an impact player in the games, but he was brilliant to have around and great with the other lads. "He is a free agent and I wouldn't rule out having him back but we have to be fitter."
