Cooper: Harewood can be a hero

Hartlepool striker Marlon Harewood could become the fans' new hero at Victoria Park, according to manager Colin Cooper.

Harewood scored his first goal for the club in Saturday's 3-0 home win against Torquay and Cooper believes Pools supporters are ready to take the former West Ham and Aston Villa forward to their hearts. The 34-year-old converted the final goal in Saturday's win, which lifted Pools up to ninth place. "As soon as Marlon gets clear I know he is going to score, I was just pleased he got clear," Cooper said after his side climbed to within five points of the top seven. "He's looked across at Jack Barmby but one-on-one I'm pretty sure he'll score, that's the extra quality he has. "The fans here want someone to really cling on to - they have loads of young talent that they love, but they want their next hero and Marlon could be that, even at 34." Harewood has started in all but one of the club's nine games since his arrival in the middle of January following his release from Bristol City.
