Kay sticking with Dons

MK Dons defender Antony Kay has signed a new one-year deal with the League One outfit.

Kay's contract was due to run out this summer but he will now remain with the Dons until June 2015. The experienced centre-back made 34 appearances last season for Karl Robinson's team and helped the side keep eight clean sheets. He also scored two goals, including a late winner against Sheffield United at the beginning of the campaign. "I'm delighted. Towards the end of last season, a new contract was mentioned and I knew then, definitely, that I wanted to stop here," Kay told the club's official website. "It's a great club and it's only going to go forward. The stadium and the fans are great, I like the way the manager wants to play and the lads here are brilliant too. I've just really enjoyed the last two years and I just wanted to continue that on. "If I wasn't enjoying my time in Milton Keynes, I wouldn't have stopped here. It only takes me an hour and 20 minutes on the train with Pottsy (Darren Potter) and I enjoy that. If I thought the travelling was a burden or it would affect my performance then I wouldn't have signed but I'm happy to do so and I just can't wait to get started again." Dons boss Robinson added: "I'm made up that he's staying. He bounced back from the red cards at the start of the 2012/13 season by performing very impressively last year, which tells you a lot about him. "Losing him to injury last season was a big loss, but he worked hard to get back fit and ended the campaign as one of our most important players. "He has a strong desire to play for the club and I look forward to working with him for at another 12 months." Kay joined the Dons as a free agent in the summer of 2012 and has gone on to make a total of 76 appearances for the club.
