Johnson sold Oldham to Poleon

Dominic Poleon has revealed manager Lee Johnson's belief in him motivated his deadline-day switch from Leeds to Oldham.

The 20-year-old was one of two Whites strikers to move in the dying hours of the summer transfer window, arriving at SportsDirect.com Park at the same time as Latics sold Jonson Clarke-Harris to Rotherham. "The manager was what sold it for me," explains Poleon. "He showed faith in me, he showed interest in me and it's always a nice feeling to know that there's someone here who believes in you and wants you to come here and do well." Poleon admits he had expected to remain a Leeds player this season, only for circumstances to change his career path on a wild Monday evening. He added: "My agent told me the manager was interested in me from a while ago but I was still contracted to Leeds. "There was a bit of a mishap over whether I was going to be allowed back out on loan or not and then on transfer deadline day it all happened really fast. But I'm here now and I'm delighted. "I was supposed to be staying but last minute that all changed. For me, the past is the past. I'm glad just to get a fresh start here and getting some games under my belt." Upon capturing Poleon, Johnson suggested his new recruit could emulate Britt Assombalonga, who left Watford and scored freely at Peterborough before arriving back in the Sky Bet Championship with Nottingham Forest this summer. "It's a nice compliment for him to give me," said Poleon. "But, to be honest, I'm just looking forward to improving my game, playing games and getting game time; that's not what I've had at Leeds."
