Northampton snap up Buchanan

Northampton have signed left-back David Buchanan following the expiry of his contract at Preston.

The 29-year-old joins his ex-Bury team-mate Nicky Adams at Chris Wilder's Cobblers and follows Keith Keane, Jack King, Lee Holmes and Scott Wiseman in departing Deepdale. Buchanan, who has also played for Hamilton and Tranmere, enjoyed an extended run in Simon Grayson's first team last term but the last of his 25 appearances came in the loss to Crawley at the end of January. Scott Laird then became the Lilywhites' first-choice left-back and they went on to lose just one more League One game, against Colchester on the final day, in their promotion campaign.
