Morecambe have agreed a deal to release veteran defender Paul Scott from his contract.

Scott's current deal with the Shrimps ran until the end of the season, but he has been allowed to leave early as a serious knee problem rules him out of action for the rest of the campaign. The 32-year-old has endured an injury nightmare since moving to the Lancashire coast in summer 2010 and the last of his eight appearances came against former club Bury in September that year. Manager Jim Bentley told the club's official website: "As a professional footballer there is nothing worse than missing long periods through injuries and he has been through a lot. "We wish him all the very best for the future." Scott is the second Morecambe player to be released from his contract in a matter of days, following Phil Jevons' departure earlier this week.
