Alexander hails Proctor

Graham Alexander hailed substitute Jamie Proctor's fighting spirit as he fired newly-promoted Fleetwood to a 2-1 win over Crewe.
Proctor created one and scored another within 10 minutes of replacing injured loan star Stephen Dobbie at the break. David Ball fired Fleetwood into the lead two minutes into the second half before Proctor smashed home from 20 yards in the 54th minute. Crewe defender Matt Tootle saw his 63rd-minute penalty saved after Liam Hogan had fouled Brad Inman. Inman converted a last-minute spot kick after Hogan conceded his second penalty by bundling over Crewe substitute Callum Saunders. Alexander said: "Stephen Dobbie has got a knock on his ankle, Jamie Proctor's come on at half-time, a little bit stung from not getting in the team, trying to make a point and really doing that." The Fleetwood boss was delighted to see his side claim their first League One victory, despite being pegged back late on. He said: "It's the start we wanted, three points, a good home win. "I'm really pleased with the players, they went about their job in a professional manner. "We could have scored another couple of goals. We've given away a couple of penalties which we're not proud of, but we've come out on top. "In all honesty, there's a couple of lads disappointed because we've conceded late from the spot. "We wanted the clean sheet, but we'll take a win and having the points on the board. "For the majority of the game we kept them at arms' length. We've had to work hard to do so and we've probably created the better chances." Crewe boss Steve Davis was left cursing fine margins after his side's opening-day defeat. He said:"I though the first half was decent, we played some decent football, we were looking like we were in the game. "There were chances for either team, we've hit the post. "It was tight going into half-time, which we expected for the first game. "Second half we've had a chance where we've clipped the bar, it's come out and they've gone down the other end and scored. "That's what happens in football. It does happen. "They got an excellent strike for the second and at 2-0 it was always going to be difficult. "We just weren't able to build. "We've had the penalty saved, of course, and the second one right at the end "We've hit the bar a couple of times and had two penalties. It really could have been very different. "You talk about turning points in a game, but their goal really was one - us hitting the woodwork just before. "We just needed a bit of luck. Those incidents change games for you. It's just not gone our way."
