Accrington snap up Whitehead

Accrington have announced the signing of former West Ham midfielder Danny Whitehead on a short-term deal.

The 21-year-old was a free agent after being released by the Premier League side in January. Whitehead, who signed for the Hammers in 2013 from Stockport following a recommendation by former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann, goes straight into Stanley's squad for Tuesday night's game at Wycombe. Whitehead told his new club's official website: "It's not too far from where I live and I've not played for six or seven weeks now so it's been an easy decision to come here. I'm delighted to get something signed and hopefully get playing. "It's a good time for me to sign with a couple of injuries and suspensions in midfield and hopefully I can take my opportunity and be involved at Wycombe. "I'm ready if needed. I've been training here for a few weeks now so I know all of the players well so if and when the gaffer picks me I'll be ready to do my best for him and the club."
