Davis happy with changes

Steve Davis reaped dividends from ringing the changes as Crewe earned a battling goalless draw with high-flying Bradford.
The Alex boss Steve Davis made six changes from the side succumbing so tamely at Sheffield United, including axing keeper Steve Phillips. Alan Martin was drafted in from the wilderness for his first start in two months in preference to the inexperienced Ben Garratt. And it was the Scot's second-half wonder save from giant threat James Hanson which proved decisive in helping bag the Railwaymen a useful point - although they remain in the League One relegation zone. "It was a big decision on the keeper and it was the right one," said Davis. "I didn't think it was the right time for our young keeper Ben Garratt to come in although he has been doing very well. "You wouldn't have known the players who were coming into the side as they didn't look rusty and they weren't out of place," said Davis, whose side went close to grabbing a late winner through sub Brad Inman and Byron Moore. "I thought we competed well against a team who have had a good start to the season." Crewe stopped the rot after dismal back-to-back defeats and Davis was happy with the showing. "It was a much better performance," added Davis. "We looked comfortable with their threat and kept Nahki wells really quiet. "Adam Dugdale and Harry Davis made good decisions and were magnificent at the back. But all the players deserve credit and it was a good 0-0. "We passed the well in difficult conditions and had the gumption to get it down and play and tried to hit the frontmen when we could . I thought we mixed our play really well."
