Jackson: Shrews getting better

Shrewsbury caretaker Mike Jackson said he can see slow progress in his side following the 0-0 draw with Port Vale.
The Shrews created the better of the handful of chances throughout a poor game at the Greenhous Meadow but Vale had few problems in registering a point. Jackson, in charge for the last four games following the resignation of Graham Turner, said: "We've had a clean sheet, we've picked up another point at home and there's been encouraging signs from where we were when I walked through the door, or into this seat. "The club's in a better place as regards the players and what we're doing." Jackson felt his side just edged the contest overall having fashioned the clearer openings in a tight match. "I wouldn't say we totally dominated the game but I thought there was a bit of grit about us, a bit of spirit, and that was pleasing, so was the clean sheet," he added. Jackson opted for a different approach by selecting three central defenders and described one of them, Jermaine Grandison, as "outstanding" in managing to limit Vale to very few chances. He said: "I think it's a decent formation if you play it well, but we just needed that little bit more in the final third."
