Scunthorpe have appointed David 'Ned' Kelly as assistant to new manager Mark Robins.

Former Rotherham, Barnsley, Coventry and Huddersfield manager Robins was unveiled as successor to Russ Wilcox earlier on Monday and Scunthorpe have confirmed Kelly, 48, as his number two. Robins said: "I'm used to working in difficult circumstances and with the club where they are in the table, this will be no different. "But in the medium and long term there is a real feeling of optimism at this club. "With the plans for a new stadium, new training facilities and the proposed development of the academy to a category two, there's a hell of a lot of work to be had, but it's something we understand and we're very excited by." Former West Ham, Leicester, Newcastle, Wolves and Sunderland striker Kelly - who also had spells at Tranmere, Sheffield United, Motherwell, Mansfield and Derry City - has spent most of his coaching career working alongside Billy Davies. Kelly, who also won 26 caps for the Republic of Ireland as a player, has worked as a coach with Davies at Sheffield United, Preston, Derby and Nottingham Forest.
