Gillingham v Macclesfield preview
Friday 30 March 2012 12:00, UK
Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Gillingham and Macclesfield at the Priestfield Stadium.
Danny Kedwell is expected to be back in contention for Gillingham's must-win home clash. The Gills' leading scorer has missed the last two games with a back problem but should be okay to take his place in Andy Hessenthaler's matchday 16, although it remains to be seen whether he is fit enough to start. Charlie Lee returned from a three-match suspension to make a nine-minute cameo in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Burton, with his substitute appearance cut short due to an ankle injury which is expected to rule him out for the next few weeks. Forward Gavin Tomlin (hamstring) is not too far away from his return although this weekend comes too soon, while Garry Richards (fractured leg), Curtis Weston, Adam Birchall (both knee) and Callum Davies (hand) continue to miss out. Gillingham are currently two places and seven points adrift of the play-off places and know they cannot afford to drop many more points over the remaining seven games if they are to clinch a top-seven finish. Brian Horton will continue to grapple with a towering injury list as Macclesfield look for their first League Two win in 17 attempts. Wales Under-21 full-back Elliott Hewitt is the latest long-term victim and is facing four months on the sidelines after undergoing hip surgery. Ankle injuries also mean the campaign is over for midfielder Dwayne Mattis and defender Paul Morgan. Goalkeepers Jose Veiga and Steve Collis are set to resume training next week following respective calf and shoulder injuries, while the Gills game also comes too soon for full-back Carl Tremarco (hamstring). Ross Draper (broken metatarsal) could feature for the the first time since December, but fellow midfielder Scott Kay (ankle) is still around a fortnight away from action and Sam Wedgbury may be ruled out through illness. Ben Tomlinson (ankle/illness) could return in attack after getting some minutes under his belt during a behind-closed-doors friendly in midweek.
