Bees late show stings Vale

Substitute Andy Yiadom headed an 89th-minute winner with his first touch of the ball to earn Barnet a 2-1 victory at Port Vale.

Yiadom's goal inflicted a first defeat on Port Vale in nine games. Vale goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson saved Mark Byrne's 20-yard free-kick, but Yiadom headed in the rebound via the underside of the bar to end relegation-threatened Barnet's eight-match winless run. Vale struggled against a solid Barnet defence, with a Sean Rigg shot which was tipped wide by Liam O'Brien the best they could muster in a poor first-half. But Vale, playing their first game since being hit with a 10-point penalty for entering administration, were handed a 56th-minute tonic when poor control by Clovis Kamdjo relinquished possession to Marc Richards. Richards still had plenty to do, but he turned into space and cracked a 25-yard shot which flew low inside O'Brien's right-hand post. Thankfully for Barnet, Tomlinson was as culpable as Kamdjo in the 66th minute when he spilled Byrne's right-wing cross for debutant Ben May to stab in the loose ball. May, on loan from Stevenage, almost bagged a second when his shot was hacked off the line by Lee Collins, but Yiadom sealed the win with his first goal in the Football League.
