Silkmen respond to relegation

Macclesfield have released a statement after being relegated, insisting the club "has always strived to be the best it could be".

After A 15-year stay in the Football League Macc's relegation from League Two was confirmed on Saturday as they went down 2-0 at home to Burton. The result caused a minority of home fans at the Moss Rose to voice their obvious frustration in the direction of the club's hierarchy. A club statement on the official website read: "Macclesfield Town Football Club has been proud to represent its community in the Football League over the last 15 years. Throughout that time, the club, on and off the field, has always strived to be the best it could be. "We have been privileged to have been able to play our part in the development of the Football League as a champion of our national game at the community level. Macclesfield Town will always be a community club and we would like to thank all our friends and supporters for their contribution over recent seasons. Without their support there would be no club. "Work will start immediately to put in place the elements required to give us the best chance of an early return to League football. Together we can make it happen." Meanwhile, manager Brian Horton, who took over in March on a deal until the end of the season, admitted he doubted he would be involved next year.
