York manager Russ Wilcox said his side's performance in their 3-0 win over Carlisle at Brunton Park was the best he had seen.
The Minstermen dominated from start to finish against the Cumbrians with a commanding display which had Wilcox delighted after the game. Wilcox said: "I thought we put in a fantastic performance full of endeavour, spirit and quality that matched the efforts of our terrific away support. "We've scored three outstanding goals and then backed it up by defending as a unit. We knew Mark Beck would be a big threat for them upfront but I thought we dealt with him well. "It was the best I've seen us play since I took over as manager. It's another small step in the right direction but we aren't going to get carried away. "We've picked up two consecutive wins for the first time this season and now I've challenged the players to make it three." The visitors went on the attack from the first whistle and kept Carlisle penned in their own half for long periods , with City goalkeeper Alex Cisak often left as a spectator. After Jake Hyde came close twice with volleys from long range, the deadlock was broken in the 44th minute when Femi Ilesanmi's cross from the left was flicked on by Wes Fletcher to an unmarked Josh Carson who cushioned a volley from six yards beyond Carlisle keeper Dan Hanford. The home side picked up slightly after the break but Beck's header which Cisak spilled and recovered was as good as it got. York were soon back on top and doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Luke Summerfield picked up the ball from a clever dummy by Michael Coulson and curled the ball into the top corner from 20 yards. The visitors continued to dominate and made the three points safe with nine minutes to go when Carlton Morris shielded the ball for Coulson whose quick shot caught out Hanford and flew into the roof of the net and signal an exodus of home supporters. Carlisle manager Keith Curle admitted his side were second best and suggested that their battling win at Morecambe on Boxing Day had taken a lot of his players. Curle said: "Friday's performance against Morecambe showed me how far we've come as a dressing room, but this performance showed me how far we've got to go. "We've suffered a bit of a backlash after the Morecambe game which took a lot out of the players. York got their first goal at the right time and we were never able to get a good foothold in the game. "I'm disappointed with the nature of the defeat. We need to regroup quickly and prepare mentally and physically for the next game."
