Notts County manager Craig Short was full of praise for his side following their 1-0 Carling Cup win at Plymouth Argyle.
Short made six changes to the side that lost 3-0 at home to Huddersfield in their League One opener on Saturday and was rewarded with a fine all round display at Home Park on Tuesday night. "I thought we started brightly, which was important, and defended superbly, especially Mike Edwards who was outstanding at the back against a very awkward opponent in Rory Fallon and handled him well," said Short. "But overall the whole team played well and defended well. They performed heroics back there and I am delighted. "Stuart Nelson made a great save near the end as well. It was an outstanding save and the fact that he only had to make a couple of saves showed just how well the back four played - I thought they were outstanding. "We were tenacious and aggressive and bounced back from Saturday's defeat, which I thought was a one-off and was against the favourites for the league. It was a real good tonic for everyone. "We played how I wanted us to play and John Spicer took the goal well and I was pleased for him. It wasn't just the goal, but the overall performance and desire to help each other."
