Adams lauds defensive duo

Micky Adams highlighted the contribution of his young Port Vale defenders Jack Grimmer and Joe Davis as they drew 0-0 with Shrewsbury.
The Shrews created the better of the handful of chances throughout a poor game at the Greenhous Meadow but Vale had few problems in registering a point. "I think probably a point has suited us more than them," said Adams. "We didn't really have the composure that was needed in the final third to cause them many problems." To that end, Adams was pleased with his side's defensive solidity which was built around strong displays from Davis and Grimmer, who is on loan from Fulham. "We've had two clean sheets (in the last two games) so you can't knock it," said Adams. "I thought the two young centre halves in particular are learning their trade and are learning every game. "As a combination, they look decent but we can never take our defending for granted. "We have to make sure we prepare properly for every game and take all the principles of defending off the training ground into games and I was really pleased with them. "They looked composed and stood up to the task well. They're getting better."
