Chesterfield manager Paul Cook felt his team gave a good account of themselves against Peterborough despite the disappointment of defeat at Wembley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final. The League Two side enjoyed long spells of dominance against their opponents from the division above, but ultimately they would be made to pay for not making it count. Goals from Josh McQuoid and Shaun Brisley put Posh in the driving seat at half-time as the Spireites were punished for not making the most of their opportunities. Eoin Doyle's strike and a red card for Peterborough midfielder Joe Newell looked like it might swing the game more towards Cook's men but Britt Assombalonga's penalty restored the two-goal cushion and snuffed out Chesterfield's glimmer of hope. "We're obviously disappointed but I knew we would take part in a good game because of the two styles of football," said Cook. "I thought when they scored their second we were totally in the ascendancy, we missed a couple of great chances but the game is about that. "I'm disappointed for our fans, we're a small town, we travel in great numbers and we had fantastic support. We want to win every game but unfortunately football isn't like that. "I'd be disappointed if any supporters felt let down, we had 58 per cent possession against a strong League One side so for any League Two side to do that at Wembley is a frighteningly good stat. "We created lots of chances and had penalties turned down but sometimes it just isn't your day." Brisley was fortunate not to concede an early penalty for a strong challenge from behind on Doyle when the game was goalless. Cook said: "You get a bit disappointed about the penalty decision after two or three minutes because I don't think there were many people in the stadium who didn't think it was a penalty. "Unfortunately they are the big decisions that go against you but Andy (D'Urso) is a senior referee and a good referee, unfortunately they can't get everything right."
