Crewe meet Port Vale in a derby clash this weekend which Alex manager Steve Davis hopes can finally kick-start their season.

The Railwaymen have lost all five of their fixtures and prop up the League One table as a result, with Vale only five points ahead after losing four on the bounce in all competitions. Davis believes those statistics will count for nothing in a derby fixture at Gresty Road, though, and is confident his men can find some form if they inflict a fifth straight defeat on their neighbours. "We're hoping it can be a turning point," he admitted. "It's a big game and a game we're really looking forward to. It's the first game we look for when the fixtures come out - when we've got Port Vale at home and away. All the lads will be looking forward to it, even despite the start we've had. "I don't think that will come into account on the day; they know that. They've lost their last three games as well so they'll be coming in to it looking for a win and all the ingredients are there for another enjoyable, exciting derby day. "When you're on a losing run you're always hoping for something to give you a real boost and they'll be nothing like a game against your neighbours to do that. Hopefully it will give us a spring and a stride into a different run of results because it's been unfortunate that we haven't been able to get the points and start the season how we wanted. "Looking at the results, both teams will be viewing it as a way of getting their seasons going. They'll be thinking the same as us that there's nothing like a derby game to get some fire in the bellies and get everyone going."
