Inbee Park can close gap on world No 1 Lydia Ko in Mexico

Inbee Park looks to put pressure on Lydia Ko's position as world No 1 and LPGA money list leader with a strong showing at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.

Ko will enter next week's season-ending CME Group Tour Championship as world No 1 regardless of this week's result, but Park can close the gap in the battle for top spot in both the world rankings and the LPGA Tour's money list with victory in Mexico City. 

Although the New Zealander holds a significant lead on top of the world, Park would cut the gap to less than $200,000 in the money standings by adding her first title since July's British Women's Open. 

Park has battled a hand injury in recent weeks and was forced to withdraw from last month's Blue Bay LPGA with a painful finger, but is fit to feature in a field that contains for of the world's top 10. 

Two-time 2015 winners Na Yeon Choi and Lexi Thompson - who won the event in 2013 - both feature, while 2012 champion Cristie Kerr is also part of a strong field for the penultimate event of the season. 

Defending champion Christina Kim tees off alongside Solheim Cup stars Suzann Pettersen and Brittany Lincicome, looking to improve on a disappointing 2015 season. 

Kim has failed to post a top-10 finish since claiming play-off victory in Mexico City 12 months ago, but hopes to bounce back with a repeat performance of last year's win.

"It's been a tough year," Kim said. "I haven't been nearly as calm, I've been really anxious with everything and kind of a lot more demanding on myself. I just haven't been as free flowing as I have been in the past.

"There's a lot of excitement and my short game was really on point last year at this tournament so a lot happy memories, a lot of happy feelings."
