Hunter Mahan forced to improvise on day one of Valspar Championship

Hunter Mahan got off to a great start at the Valspar Championship before he ran into some short-game trouble at Palm Harbor.
Mahan birdied two of his first three holes but then pulled his tee shot into a greenside bunker at the treacherous 200-yard par-three 13th.
Facing a horrible plugged lie in the sand, Mahan sensibly opted not to go at the pin and bring water into play, although his escape raced across the green and into thick rough surrounding another bunker.
The American was unable to take a stance on level ground to his ball, so he was forced to have both feet in the sand trap while gripping so far down his wedge that both his hands were on the shaft.
