Scotland's Catriona Matthew remains five shots off the lead at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic after battling her way to a round of par 72.

On a day with much movement at the top of the leaderboard, Matthew fell into trouble with dropped shots on the sixth and 11th holes.

However, she birdied the 13th and 18th to make it back to the clubhouse even, and at four under for the tournament in San Francisco.

That leaves Matthew in a tie for ninth place, five shots behind Japan's Haru Nomura, who leads by three strokes after a round of 70.

Overnight leader Ryu So-yeon of Korea struggled to a 75, 12 shots over her opening 63, to drop down to a tie for second, alongside Na Yeon Choi and Minjee Lee, who fired a 65 to move up 57 places on the leaderboard.
