Sky Sports will once again be your home of golf in 2017

The 2017 golfing calendar begins this week at the SBS Tournament of Champions. We take a closer look at the first PGA Tour event of the year.

Who is involved?

The field is limited to the 38 tournament winners on the PGA Tour over the past calendar year, with 32 taking up the invite - including four of the world's top six.

World No 1 Jason Day makes his first start in three-and-a-half months since withdrawing mid-tournament from the final two events of the FedExCup play-offs, while last year's winner Jordan Spieth and US Open champion Dustin Johnston are also involved.

Eleven players will be making their tournament debut, including Cody Gribble and Mackenzie Hughes - two of the early winners in the 2016-17 campaign.

Who isn't playing?

FedExCup champion Rory McIlroy, who won the season-ending Tour Championship, is one of those not taking part, with the world No 2 starting his 2017 at next week's South African Open.

None of Europe's Ryder Cup side will feature, with Green Jacket holder Danny Willett and AT&T Byron Nelson winner Sergio Garcia also missing the first event of the year.

The other players eligible to feature this week but not making the trip are Open Champion Henrik Stenson, Charl Schartzel and former world No 1 Adam Scott.

Where is it?

The tournament once again returns to the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Hawaii, a picturesque par-73 layout which often yields plenty of low scoring.

Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw and sat overlooking the ocean, the course boasts plenty of wide fairways but can sometimes cause players problems when exposed to strong winds.

Jordan Spieth cruised to a record-breaking win in Hawaii last year, finishing 30-under-par for the week to end eight shots clear of 2015 winner Patrick Reed.

Dustin Johnson and Zach Johnson are other recent winners of the tournament, which also has Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els on its roll of honour.
