Lee Westwood has not won in the UK since the British Masters in 2007, but he hopes to put that right at Woburn.

Lee Westwood is looking forward to returning to Woburn for the British Masters supported by Sky Sports, which gets underway on Thursday.

A lack of sponsorship meant the event was removed from the European Tour in 2008 but it returns to the Bedfordshire course this week and Westwood is delighted to see it back on the golf calendar.

"I'm really looking forward to being back at Woburn, it's been quite a few years since we played there and it's quite a few years since the British Masters was on as well," Westwood told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Sky have done a good job to promote it and they're going to have a good field. Woburn is a great venue and it's a prestigious title to win, it's been around on the European Tour for a long time and it's nice to see it back."

Darren Clarke says he won't select Lee Westwood for the Ryder Cup out of sentimentality, but hopes his friend's form means he makes the team.

Westwood has suffered from indifferent form this year and missed the cut at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, but he remains in confident mood.

"My game is kind of there or thereabouts but it's not quite firing on all cylinders," he added. "Last week I played okay again, missed the cut by a couple of shots after I shot four-under, but it was pretty easy conditions.

"I just hit a few poor shots at the wrong times. When I get on a roll I can't sustain that roll and get a few birdies, or I get off to a bad start and I am having to fight my way back.

"It's just one of these things in golf where you go through these phases. You just have to keep practising and working on the things you know make you perform well. Eventually, it just turns around."

As for the possibility of making the Ryder Cup team for a 10th time when Europe defend their title against the US at Hazeltine National Golf Club next year, Westwood is keen to be involved once again.

"I'd love to be on the team. I've been on nine of them and they are very special, even the two losing teams I have been on," he said. "They are special weeks and you get to know the lads a lot better. They are really fun weeks, especially away from home.
