Jason Day grouped with Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson at PGA Championship

Jason Day will begin the defence of his PGA Championship title alongside two-time champion Rory McIlroy and 2005 winner Phil Mickelson at Baltusrol next week.

The trio form the first high-profile group out in Thursday's opening round, teeing off from the 10th at 1:30pm BST - an hour and a half after Welsh journeyman Bradley Dredge goes out in the first three-ball of the tournament.

Day clinched his maiden major title in record-breaking style at Whistling Straits last year, narrowly denying Jordan Spieth his third major victory of the season, while Open runner-up Mickelson clinched his lone PGA Championship crown when the event was last played at Baltusrol in 2005.

McIlroy has not added to his haul of four majors since winning his second PGA title at Valhalla in 2014, and the world No 4 will be determined to atone for a disappointing week at Royal Troon as he finished 16 shots behind champion Henrik Stenson.

As is traditional in the final major of the year, Stenson will play the first two rounds with the Masters and US Open champions - Danny Willett and Dustin Johnson - and they begin their campaigns from the first tee at 6:45pm.

The two preceeding groups are also packed full of quality, with Sergio Garcia partnering Spieth and Bubba Watson in game 34, with Justin Rose, Patrick Reed and Charl Schwartzel heading to the first tee next.
