Alexander Levy claims play-off win over Ross Fisher at European Open

Highlights of day four of the Porsche European Open

Alexander Levy holed a long-range birdie putt at the second play-off hole to snatch a dramatic victory at the European Open.

The Frenchman saw a four-hole overnight lead disappear during the 54-hole event in Germany, as Ross Fisher fired a bogey-free 64 to take the tournament to extra holes.

After the pair exchanged pars at the first play-off hole, Levy drained a 25-footer for a birdie at the next visit to the 18th to give the world No 170 a third European Tour title.

Ryder Cup wildcard Martin Kaymer finished the week in sixth spot, as teammate Thomas Pieters ended 14 strokes off the pace after an erratic one-under 70.

Levy saw his advantage cut to two strokes when he missed the first green and carded his first bogey of the week, as Fisher rolled in a birdie and Robert Karlsson opened with three consecutive gains.

The Frenchman then followed successive gains with back-to-back blemishes from the fourth, before picking up a stroke at the long eighth to reach the turn in 35.

Fisher carded four birdies along the front nine and matched Levy's gain at the 10th, only for the overnight leader to reclaim his cushion with three gains in a four-hole stretch from the 12th.

The momentum changed at the 16th when Fisher drained a 20-footer and Levy's par-save lipped out, seeing the lead cut to one, before Levy recovered from a wayward approach to bogey the last and force the play-off.

The pair went back to the 18th tee and after both parred the hole, Levy birdied at the next attempt to seal victory.

Four consecutive birdies around the turn helped Karlsson to a six-under 65 to finish the week three strokes back in tied-third alongside compatriot Michael Jonzon, who bogeyed his final hole.

First round leader Bernd Wiesberger carded a final-round 67 to sit fifth ahead of Kaymer, who was briefly within two of the lead until a blemish at the 14th ended his hopes.

Defending champion Thongchai Jaidee was eight strokes back tied 20th, while Pieters fired six birdies and an eagle during his final round but also posted a triple-bogey and a double-bogey in a up-and-down day.
