Jarrod Lyle posted the first hole-in-one of the 2017 European Tour season

It took just a few hours for the opening hole-in-one of the 2017 European Tour season to be posted during day one of the Australian PGA Championship.

Jarrod Lyle took the honour of draining the opening ace, with the Australian nailing his tee shot at the same hole where Filippo Bergamaschi posted the first ace of the 2016 European Tour campaign.

Report from day one on the Gold Coast

Lyle reached the par-three fifth at RACV Royal Pines Resort level-par for the day after a blemish at the second cancelled out his opening-hole gain.

The 35-year-old used a seven iron for the 179-yard hole, where he saw his tee show bounce just short of the green and take two more hops before rolling straight in to the cup.

Lyle then sandwiched birdies at the eighth and the 12th between a bogey-five at the 10th, leaving him four strokes off the pace when thunderstorms brought and early end to play.
