England's Charley Hull saw her first round of the ANA Inspiration curtailed by inclement weather at Rancho Mirage in California.

The 21-year-old, who finished as runner-up last season, made another good start to the year's first LPGA major but she could only complete seven holes on the opening day before high winds brought an early end to play just after 4pm local time.

A deep low pressure system moved through the Coachella Valley which felled trees and caused power outages. Play was expected to resume at 7.30 a.m. Friday (3.30pm BST), officials said.

Starting on the 10th hole, Hull birdied on 11 and 13 to sit on two under, three shots off clubhouse leader Karine Icher, and she will complete her opening round on Friday.

Frenchwoman Icher is the sole leader having shot a five-under-par 67, consisting of seven birdies and two bogeys, but the story of the day was South Korean amateur Eun Jeong Seong.
