Team USA's Paul Peterson falls foul of the shot clock on the fourth hole during their GolfSixes clash against Wales

Team USA's Paul Peterson was the first player at the inaugural GolfSixes to fall foul of the shot clock on the fourth hole at Centurion Golf Club.

Peterson and David Lipsky were locked in a tight match against Wales in the second session of day one when they arrived at the par-four fourth, which features a 40-second shot clock.

But the left-hander was blissfully unaware of time ticking down as he went through his pre-shot routine and finally addressed his ball, although Bradley Dredge certainly knew the score as he kept alternating his glance between his opponent and the clock.

Peterson was still waggling away when the clock counted down to zero, which was clearly noted by Dredge, and Wales went on to win the hole with a par and level the tie at 1-1, which proved to be the final score as they halved the final two holes.

It was then announced that most of the field were finding the 40-second limit too easy, with the probably exception of Peterson, so tournament officials reacted by reducing the time to 30 seconds for the remainder of the event.
