Haotong Li may have narrowly missed out on Rocco Forte Open victory, but he still had a special reason to remember his final round.

The Chinese star posted a joint-low round-of-the-day 66 at Verdura Golf Club to fall one stroke short of Zander Lombard and eventual winner Alvaro Quiros, surging up the leaderboard with a moment of magic on Sunday.

Beginning the day seven strokes off the pace, Li mixed four birdies with a double-bogey to reach the turn in 34 before saving the highlight of his day for the par-five 12th.

After finding the fairway off the tee, Li then holed his second shot for a rare albatross and the first of his European Tour career.

Li later had to be persuaded to get off a bus heading to the airport as the final group stumbled over the closing stretch, but eventually had to settle for outright third spot.
