Laura Davies and Paula Creamer qualify for Women's British Open

America's Lexi Thompson and South Korean So Yeon Ryu are among those who will be battling it out for the British Women's Open title at Kingsbarns.

Dame Laura Davies will make a 37th consecutive appearance at the Women’s British Open after progressing through Final Qualifying on Monday.

The 53-year-old claimed one of 22 places available at The Castle Course in St Andrews, with six-time Solheim Cup star Paula Creamer among the others from the 111-strong field to progress.

Creamer posted a four-under 68 to finish in a share of second behind Finland's Ursula Wikstrom, while Davies needed a play-off to progress after carding a two-under 70.

The 1986 champion was one of 14 players involved in the play-off and chasing one of the remaining 11 places, where a par at the first extra hole was enough for her to qualify for Kingsbarns.

"I've played in the last 36 Opens and have never had to qualify so this is a new experience for me," Davies said. "I don't like it very much.

"I played well but I'm disappointed because I bogeyed 16 and damn near bogeyed 18 as well. It would have been nice to shoot four under."

Wilkstrom carded a blemish-free 67 to top the standings, with Tiffany Joh and Ashleigh Buhai joining Creamer one off the pace.

"I've always liked a challenge and I'm very pleased with how I played," Creamer said. "I haven't missed a British Open since I turned professional and I didn't want to start now."

Wales' Lydia Hall was one of seven players to qualify with a three-under 69, while Scotland's Heather Macrae joined Davies in the group to progress through extra holes.
