In-Kyung Kim secured a maiden major title by completing a two-stroke victory at the Ricoh Women’s British Open.
The South Korean took a six-shot lead into the final round and never lost her overnight advantage, posting a one-under 71 in wet and breezy conditions at Kingsbarns to stay ahead of the chasing pack.
Jodi Ewart Shadoff fired a joint-low round-of-the-week 64 to take the runners-up spot, with Georgia Hall ending in a share of third alongside Michelle Wie and Caroline Masson.
"I feel quite uplifted, I have to say because I really didn't expect to win this week," said Kim who won her first major in her 47th attempt.
"And having the lead going into the last round, was a great task. I think I managed it quite well."
Kim made a fast start with a tap-in gain at the first, as Wie followed a birdie at the second with four in a row from the fourth.
The American missed from 10 feet at the eighth but holed a birdie from a similar distance at the next to reach the turn in 30, with Kim seeing her lead drop to four after a three-putt bogey at the ninth.
Shadoff surged in contention with a run of five straight gains from the seventh, while Wie posted a birdie-two at the 12th but bogeyed her penultimate hole.
As Kim posted a string of pars along the back nine, Shadoff rolled in from 12 feet at the 13th and added another birdie at the 17th to close the gap to two and set the clubhouse target at 16 under.
Kim narrowly missed a long-range birdie effort at the 16th and failed to convert the 15-footer at the next, before sealing victory with a two-putt par at the last.
Hall got up-and-down to save par at the last and complete a two-under 70, with Masson joining the 21-year-old and Wie on 13 under by completing her closing 67 with a final-hole birdie.
Anna Nordqvist and Shanshan Feng carded matching 67s to end the week in a share of seventh alongside Stacy Lewis, with Lexi Thompson and Inbee Park part of the group a further shot back.
A two-under 70 from Charley Hull saw the home favourite end the week on eight under, while Mel Reid struggled to a two-over 74 to end the week in a share of 30th.
