Gary Player maintains a vigorous health regime at the age of 81 but is concerned about the fitness levels of young people today

Gary Player has expressed his deep concerns about the health and fitness of young people.

On National Fitness Day, the 81-year-old spoke out about his concerns about a populace which does not get enough exercise or pay close enough attention to their diets.

White bread, doughnuts and fatty bacon drew particular criticism from the three-time Open champion.

Player himself maintains a strict personal fitness regime and believes there are "very few 40-year-olds" who can compete with him in the gym.
