American golfer Lexi Thompson has revealed that competing against men has boosted her game and mentality.

The 22-year-old from Florida will for a second successive year be the only female playing in the QBE Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club.

It's a men's event featuring 12 two-person teams with Thompson partnering Tony Finau after finishing tied for last place with Bryson DeChambeau last year.

Thompson will also be returning to the course two weeks after missing an easy two-footer on the final hole of the LPGA's season finale which meant her losing grip on the tournament and LPGA's Player of the Year Award.

"It's always an amazing experience, I had a lot of fun playing in the tournament last year," Thompson said on the Golf Digest podcast.

"I learn something new on every shot I see the men hit. It's pretty impressive to watch the distance they hit it off the tee and the number of shots they can hit to the green with tough pin locations.

"It's good for my game because I'm testing everything I can. They have so many short game shots around the green like flop shots that they are just not afraid to hit.

"Sometimes I'll pick their brain a bit to see how they hit certain shots and how they practice that. It's a great learning process for me."
