Raphael Jacquelin has replaced the injured Alvaro Quiros at this week's Vivendi Seve Trophy in Paris.
Frenchman gets chance to shine on home soil after Quiros pulls out
Continental Europe captain Jean van de Velde will have a fellow Frenchman in his team at this week's Vivendi Seve Trophy in Paris after Raphael Jacquelin was called in to replace Spain's Alvaro Quiros.
Quiros is out of the team to face Britain and Ireland at St. Nom-La-Breteche because of a wrist injury and Jacquelin, next in line off the European Tour money list, has accepted the chance to perform in front of his home French fans.
Jacquelin is the joint second all-time leading points scorer for the Continentals having won eight and halved one of the 15 matches he's played on his three previous appearances in 2002, 2003 and 2007.
Captain Jean Van de Velde said: "First of all, it is desperately disappointing news for Alvaro.
"He wanted to play and to be able to honour the memory of Seve (Ballesteros). However, his wrist injury hadn't healed sufficiently for him to compete.
"He would have been a big asset to my team. He is a wonderful player and a great character and we are both disappointed that he won't make it.
Outstanding
"Having said that, Raphael Jacquelin is an outstanding player as he proved in three previous Seve Trophies when he collected eight and a half points.
"It will be wonderful to have him in the team as he is very experienced, knows St Nom very well and I am sure he will receive great support from the French public.
"He is very excited about playing and is a fine competitor who will be an excellent addition to our Continental side."
