Bryson DeChambeau became only the fifth player to complete the double when he added the US Amateur Championship to his NCAA individual title.

DeChambeau, who is a senior from Southern Methodist University, beat Virginia junior Derek Bard 7&6 in a one-sided final at Olympia Fields in Illinois.

The only other four players to win both titles in the same season are Jack Nicklaus (1961), Phil Mickelson (1990), Tiger Woods (1996) and most recently Ryan Moore in 2010.

Bard struggled badly in Sunday's final, failing to make a birdie after the sixth hole of the morning round, while DeChambeau racked up nine and was 20 under across his six matches.

"I can't believe what I just did," DeChambeau said. "I'm in golf history. I don't understand it yet. It's an honour to be in that field.

His winning margin was the biggest since 2015 BMW PGA champion Byeong-Hun An beat Ben Martin 7&5 in the 2009 final.

Even a caddie switch didn't bother DeChambeau. Regular bag man Mike Schy complained of blisters and plantar fasciitis, so was replaced for the afternoon round by Brooke Price, a former team-mate at SMU.
