Wayne Riley reflects on Tiger Woods winning in near-darkness in 2000

Making birdie at the daunting 18th at Firestone Country Club is a rare feat in broad daylight, but Tiger Woods wrapped up the 2000 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational title in near darkness with a sensational closing three.
Woods, who pipped long-time rival Phil Mickelson to the inaugural staging of the event 12 months previously, was already assured of a successful defence as he arrived on the 72nd tee armed with an 11-shot lead, but he faced a battle to get the job done before the fast-fading light rendered conditions unplayable.
He could not have seen where his 300-yard drive ended up as visibility was down to barely half that distance, but Woods was informed he had striped it down the fairway and faced a second of just over 160 yards.
With the green partially lit by the lighting in the hospitality suites, Woods took dead aim and laced a stunning approach to within four feet of the pin and strode quickly to the putting surface to knock in the putt, prompting hundreds of camera flashes as he picked his ball out of the hole.
It was one of the more memorable winning moments of the illustrious Woods career, and the second of his remarkable eight victories in the event.
