It's easy to see why ECCO's Golf Street shoe range is attracting so much attention. Read our review As well as a wicked slice and fierce hook, I now possess one of the trendiest pairs of shoes in my golf bag. My motto when it comes to golf is: If you can't play the part, at least look the part. And thanks to the good people at ECCO, I at least have the footwear which makes me feel like a pro. Golf fashion has evolved rapidly over the years - thanks in no small part to the likes of Ian Poulter, Rickie Fowler and John Daly - and, keen to keep up with the latest trends, I contacted Danish shoe specialists ECCO to see what all the fuss about their new golf shoe range was all about. The Old Course at Vilamoura was a fitting venue to test the equally stylish ECCO Golf Street shoe - described as "a fashionable golf sneaker with a retro twist" on their official website. 'Retro' is most definitely the word I would use to describe the shoe, which, with the colour matching laces, adds versatility to what colours you can wear above. The style of the shoe in no way compromises comfort, with lightweight cushioning on the insole unit ensuring a snug fit when you make your way around the course. There is barely a cloud, let alone raincloud, in the sky in Vilamoura for the few days I was over there, but should you be playing in the wet, there is also a 'breathable textile lining' which is designed to absorb moisture and keep your feet cool and dry. The grip was great, too. I spent a lot of time in amongst the pine trees at the Old Course, as well as the numerous bunkers, and had no problem keeping my footing during stroke. The main reason for this is the 'traction control' on the shoe. Created from highly durable and wear resistant material, the traction bars on the sole are shown to last five times longer than rubber.
